The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), which is now known as the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India (GOI) has established the National Testing Agency (NTA) as an independent, autonomous, and self-sustained premier testing organization under the Societies Registration Act (1860) for conducting efficient, transparent and international standards tests in order to assess the competency of candidates for admissions to premier higher education institutions.

The objectives of NTA, inter alia, include:
- To conduct efficient, transparent, and international standard tests in order to assess the competency of candidates for admission.
- To undertake research on educational, professional and testing system to identify gaps in the knowledge systems and take steps for bridging them.

The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-UG) is being conducted by NTA since 2019 for admission to the undergraduate medical education, with the approval of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (vide O.M. no. V.11025/14/216-MEP dated 6th December 2017) and MHRD (vide Order No 35-5/2017 TS.I dated 24th September 2018).

NEET Eligibility criteria 2022: The minimum eligibility criteria to apply for NEET 2022 is that candidates must have passed class 12 in PCB with a minimum of 50% marks. Candidates belonging to the reserved category required only 40% in the qualifying exam. NMC has revised NEET Eligibility Criteria 2022. The upper age limit of 25 years has been scrapped. Candidates completing 17 years of age as of Dec 31, 2022.
- Also, if a candidate is planning to take admission in B.Sc Nursing will have to fulfill NEET eligibility criteria i.e. a minimum of 45% marks taken together in PCB in class 12 and English should be the compulsory subject.
- Candidates who have taken biology as an additional subject are also eligible to apply. Other than Indian Nationals, NRIs, OCIs, PIOs & Foreign Nationals are also eligible to apply NEET 2022.
- While appearing for NEET Counselling candidates will have to produce all the original documents satisfying the minimum eligibility requirement

NEET Eligibility Criteria 2022: Attempts Limit
In 2018, the cap on NEET attempts limit had been removed but during that time the upper age limit was being followed where candidates above 25 years of age were not allowed to appear for the exam.
- Also in 2018, the age limit criteria was challenged by candidates in the Supreme Court.
- In a recent announcement made by NMC, the upper age limit requirement for NEET UG has been scrapped officially.
- Therefore, for NEET 2022 there is no limit on the number of attempts and also no limit on upper age criteria.

Exam Pattern
NEET is the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test conducted in offline mode to offer admission in MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, Nursing, etc courses. All the government and private medical colleges will offer admission under 15% AIQ and 85% State level quota seats. Also, NEET is the only valid exam for admission to institutes like JIPMER, AIIMS, PGIMER, etc.
NEET 2022 Exam Date is July 17, 2022. As per NEET 2022 latest news, a record 18,72,339 candidates have registered for NEET 2022 exam, nearly 2.6 lakh more than last year. Registered candidates will now be issued NEET Admit Card likely on July 5, 2022. NTA will release NEET 2022 Admit Card on the official website- neet.nta.nic.in. To download the admit card for NEET UG 2022, candidates need to enter their application number and date of birth. NEET is a pen-paper based exam conducted for admission to 600+ MBBS, 313 BDS, 900+ AYUSH, and 47 BVSc & AH colleges.
NEET 2022 question paper will comprise 200 MCQs from 4 major subjects i.e. Physics, Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology. As per the revised NEET 2022 Exam Pattern, each subject is divided into 2 sections i.e. A & B with 35 and 15 questions respectively. Also, NEET exam duration is 200 minutes (3 hours 20 minutes). No changes are announced in NEET 2022 Syllabus, but to rationalize the reduction of the syllabus by various boards, NTA has provided the internal choice in Section B of NEET question paper. So, out of the 15 questions in Section B, only 10 have to be attempted. As per the marking scheme, 4 marks are awarded for each correct answer, 1 mark is deducted for each incorrect answer, and marks are neither awarded nor deducted for unattempted questions.
The qualifying NEET cut off percentile is fixed for all the categories i.e. 50 for GN, 45 for GN-PwD, 40 for OBC/ST/SC/PwD, however, the qualifying marks vary every year for each category. NEET Cut off 2021 (Qualifying) was 138-720 for the General category and 108-137 for OBC/ SC/ ST categories.
